Turkish Spinach Stew with Beef Recipe



Spinach with ground beef is a classic Turkish home recipe that is cooked in Turkish homes throughout the spinach season, especially in winter. This heart warming is very easy to make but very easy and healthy..Here I use 200 gr of beef and 1 kg spinach but you can play with this quantity if you like. You can make this dish with less meat or with more beef. You will see 1 kg spinach will go down significantly when you cook it.


Turkish Spinach Stew with Beef Recipe Ingredients

1 kg. spinach

200 grams of ground beef

2-3 tablespoons bulgur or rice

1 onion, chopped

1 carrot grated

2 tbsp olive oil

2-3 tablespoons chopped tomato or tomato puree

Salt



Heat olive oil in the medium saucepan.Add onions and cook it until they are translucent and caramelized a little bit. We want to make sure we keep stirring when adding and cooking ingredients one by one. After onions add ground beef and keep stirring until and cook the meat until there is no pink ground beef left. Add grated carrot and keep stirring and cooking carrots 1 minute or so. Then add tomatoes, rice and salt. Keep stirring all ingredients well before adding spinach. If you are using big spinach leaves cut them roughly by your hand and work in batches. Adding 1 kg spinach might too too much for a medium saucepan .But you know spinach will go down in volume significantly when it is cooked. Add some spinach until pan is full and then cover the pan and let it steam..After a minute or so, you will have more space to add more spinach. After you add all spinach let it steam more. After all spinach went down in volume significantly, mix it well with all ingredients and add water just to cover the spinach more. Cook it around 15 minutes until rice is cooked through.


Serve warm with yoghurt.
